Build marketing campaigns in HubSpot

If you’re using HubSpot for content or lead generation but not using marketing campaigns, you’re missing one of the most powerful tools in the platform. Campaigns help you organize, measure, and analyze your marketing efforts so you can prove what’s actually driving business results.

What Are HubSpot Campaigns?

HubSpot campaigns act as the umbrella for your marketing efforts. They tie together emails, landing pages, forms, ads, and workflows into a single coordinated initiative. Whether you’re promoting a product launch, a new service, or a recurring newsletter, campaigns help you see performance at a glance.

When to Create a Campaign

You should build a campaign any time you’re coordinating multiple assets toward a common goal. At The Gist, for example, we run evergreen campaigns centered on our core services - including HubSpot implementations, website development, inbound marketing, sales enablement, and customer engagement. Each campaign includes its own pages, emails, and social content.

Every new piece of content is attributed to one of these campaigns, allowing us to track views, influenced contacts, deals, and revenue. That’s the level of visibility that makes reporting to leadership easy and accurate.

How to Create a Campaign

Creating a campaign in HubSpot is straightforward:

  1. Go to the Marketing tab and click the Campaigns bullhorn icon.

  2. Click "Create Campaign" to start from scratch or use a template.

  3. Add a name, color, owner, start date, and internal notes.

  4. Begin associating assets such as emails, forms, and pages.

You can also assign campaigns while creating an asset, such as associating an email or landing page with a specific campaign as you build it.

Measuring Success with Reports

HubSpot automatically builds performance and attribution reports for every Campaign. You can view:

  • Influenced contacts and customers

  • Deals created and revenue influenced

  • ROI calculations

  • Channel-level metrics like website sessions and ad clicks

You can even pull campaign data into a custom dashboard for higher-level reporting across all campaigns.

The Spotlight Example

Our weekly newsletter, The Spotlight, is an excellent example of a HubSpot campaign. It includes:

  • A subscription form and landing page

  • Weekly marketing emails

  • A subscriber survey workflow

  • Plans for social media promotion

All of these assets are tied to one Campaign, making it easy to track performance, measure influenced contacts, and review engagement by segment.

Final Thoughts

The Campaigns tool is the key to turning HubSpot from a publishing platform into a performance engine. It connects the dots between tactics and outcomes-and that’s what great marketing is all about.
